The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
