Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with results like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
