Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
