Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.
The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
