Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
