A man has been indicted with attempted murder in connection with the gunfire incident that targeted New York Jets professional athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
The individual charged is a 20-year-old Bronx resident, age 20. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, facing multiple serious charges.
Circumstances of the November Shooting
The serious event took place in the early hours of 16 November, outside a well-known New York City restaurant. Authorities characterized the event as a confrontation with a group of strangers.
Boyd, 29 years old, was with two other Jets players and a third companion in Midtown Manhattan when the verbal confrontation escalated.
The situation turned into a fight, during which it is alleged Green shot Boyd two times in the torso.
Severe Wounds and Hospitalization
The gunshot pierced Boyd's pulmonary organ and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was taken to the hospital in grave condition but was later discharged.
Reports indicate he has met with his fellow players at a Jets practice facility.
Investigation and Apprehension in Another City
Security footage from the area reportedly showed Green running away and getting into a vehicle driven by another person.
Authorities took into custody Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was allegedly staying at his girlfriend's apartment.
A law enforcement statement confirmed that "an individual" had been arrested.
When a team surrounded the apartment complex, the suspect was seen "looking out the window looking for an escape avenue but retreated inside after seeing the authorities," the report said.
The situation concluded soon after, when the man exited the apartment with his hands in the air.
The accused had "altered his appearance presumably to evade capture," authorities stated further.
Boyd's Career History
Prior to joining the Jets this season, Boyd was a member of the Arizona Cardinals over several years in the NFL.
The defensive player had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after sustaining a injury to his shoulder during team practice in the late summer.
