The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
